Cambodia’s busy capital Phnom Penh is located at the junction of the Mekong and Tonlé Sap rivers. Here is where you can enjoy the majestic beauty of Khmer architecture reflected in Phnom Penh’s tourist attractions such as the ornate Royal Palace, Silver Pagoda or the National Museum of Cambodia, which displays artefacts from around the country.
Spend the whole day discovering Phnom Penh's past and present. Take a look at some of the Khmer Rouge’s infamous sombre locations and learn about the region's dark history as well as its current politics. Then get out of the capital, pay a visit to an island on the Mekong, where you'll experience the local residents’ life along the river.
Your Phnom Penh full day tour starts with a piece of Cambodia's history. Your guide will take you to Tuol Sleng Genocide Museum, a former school that served as a Khmer Rouge torture centre. Afterwards, you’ll be introduced to a large stupa made up of about 8,000 human skulls, Choueng Ek Memorial, one of the infamous Killing Fields.
Enjoy a Khmer lunch at an NGO training restaurant before travelling by moto-remork (a.k.a Cambodian tuk-tuk) crossing the Japanese Friendship Bridge, leaving Phnom Penh capital to ferry across Mekong River to Mekong Island in the afternoon. The island is famous for silk weaving, agriculture, and aquaculture. We'll stop to see the silk weavers at work in the village, where you can purchase some of the local products if you wish to. It’s your choice whether to explore a Buddhist temple and floating fish farms, where you can see rice paddies and enjoy local Khmer snacks at a family’s as you wander around the village.
Say goodbye to the tuk-tuk to experience a boat trip towards the junction of the Tonle Bassac, Tonle Sap, and the Mekong. The distinctive Khmer-influenced architecture of Cambodia is reflected in Wat Ounalom, the Royal Palace, the Silver Pagoda as well as French colonial buildings, half of which are renovated while the other half ravaged by the war.
As the sun sets, our chauffeur will take you back to your hotel in Phnom Penh.
