1.Thingyan New Year Water Festival
Occured during 4 days from 12th to 16th April, Thingyan New Year Water Festival which is the most Burmese important public holiday, marks the end of the old year and beginning of the new.
The festival is an occasion that people throw water at each other. This activity is considered as a symbol to cleanse the sins of the last year. Thingyan New Year Water Festival is celebrated every year and over in the country.
2.Phaung Daw Oo Pagoda Festival
This is the largest and the most important festival in Myanmar. Take place over more than 20 days (2nd-19th October), this is an occasion for the Burmese and visitors to express the respectation to the Buddha.
Coming to Myanmar during Phaung Daw Oo Pagoda Festival, tourists have a chance to admire the colorful parade around the lake in an elaborate, gilded barge pulled by traditional long boats manned by hundreds of rowers. It would be a sight not to be missed by anyone visiting Myanmar.
3.Thadingyut Festival of Lights
Occured at the end of October, Thadingyut Festival of Lights observes the event when the Buddha came down to the earth after the end of Lent. On this occasion, young people show their respect to elders by formally presenting them with gifts of food. Everywhere is covered by lanterns, candles or electric bulbs. People are attracted by concerts and the nearby stalls.
4.Shwedagon Pagoda Festival
Renown as the country of golden pagodas, Shwedagon Pagoda Festival is one of the most popular and important festivals in Myanmar. This pagoda is also considered as the world’s luxurious pagoda and of Myanmar. Take place during 15 days in Yangon with a lot of Buddhist activities, the festival is a combination of cultural values of spirit.
